Webb4 jan. 2000 · Also if your looking for rebuild parts they are getting hard to find. I did find a place in Northern Ca. called Borders Trans. If you want their phone# let me know and I'll hunt it up. I put a SM420 in my '42 only to find out that it won't stay in 4th gear. I now have a 2nd tranny I am going to try. Used trannys are cheaper than rebuilding. Webb29 sep. 2001 · I've got about 5 or 6 SM420 trannys out in my garage and one in my Cruiser. They are tough and you can't beat that low first gear. I wouldn't run anything else for the kind of trails I run. But as mentionioned above these trannys have been around awhile and anything you get for $50 is going to need a rebuild.

Webb19 jan. 2014 · I understand the SM420 will marry directly to a GM style bellhousing, and Novak sells an adapter for D18 transfer case to SM420, but is pricey at $500. I've also read about driveline angle changes for the rear driveshaft.
